Election Coverage Policy
At Scene Magazine, our goal is to give LGBTQ+ voters the information they deserve when making political choices. We believe that hearing directly from candidates is an important part of that.
For elections we cover:
Equal platform: All candidates are invited to contribute a written piece of equal length.
LGBTQ+ focus: We ask each candidate to outline their LGBTQ+ policy agenda and commitments, their priorities for the local community, and why LGBTQ+ voters might consider supporting them.
Neutral stance: Publication does not imply endorsement. The views expressed are solely those of the candidates.
Transparency: If a candidate does not provide a contribution, we will make that clear to readers.
Editorial independence: We reserve the right to edit for clarity, length, and tone, but not for political content.
Multiple formats: In addition to publishing candidate-written pieces, Scene Magazine may also conduct interviews, host Q&As, or produce other forms of election coverage. These will follow the same principles of fairness, balance, and LGBTQ+ focus.
Equal opportunity: Where interviews or other formats are offered, all candidates will be invited to participate on the same terms.
Editorial integrity: Our questions will be designed to help LGBTQ+ voters get clear, relevant answers. While we may challenge candidates on their records or policies, our aim is to remain impartial and hold all parties to the same standard.
Clarity for readers: We will always label clearly whether an article is a candidate’s own submission, an interview conducted by Scene, or another form of reporting.
This approach reflects our commitment to fair coverage, accountability, and amplifying the voices that matter to LGBTQ+ communities.
